The media is stating 98 rounds fired from the wack-job that shot up Binghampton.

A Vietnamese immigrant who killed 13 people and himself at an upstate New York civic center fired 98 shots from two handguns in just over a minute, according to police.

Ballistics reports show that 41-year-old Jiverly Wong fired 87 times from a 9mm Beretta and 11 times from a .45-caliber handgun.

How does CSI determine it was fired in 60-90 seconds? That is some serious speed reloading. Obviously he was just spraying bullets. I am guessing a Beretta 92, do they have 16 rd mags?

Obviously citizens can't be trusted with 87 round magazines, and there should be some type of legislation passed to limit people to magazines with a capacity of 86 or less rounds.

I don't think I've ever heard the media use the term "low powered rifle". Guess it doesn't sound quite as dramatic.

Sorta. I think they just "updated" earlier reports with new info. IIRC, the mayor initially said rifle, but LEO's on scene found 2 handguns. Something like that.

My guess is that there will be some discrepencies in the timeline. The police say he fired them all in a minute to a minute and a half. I'm thinking it took him at least twice that. But that doesn't sound anywhere near as dramatic...

They get the length of time from the witnesses at scene. You talk to all of them and figure out the time line from there.
