I think I sprained my trigger finger from shooting

It hurts. It hurts a lot!

I can't figure it out. Felt recoil goes into your hand, wrist, arm, elbow, shoulder, back, and neck ... not your finger! In the last 3 or 4 weeks, I've been at the range maybe twice a week and only shot through 1k. That's not a whole lot of ammo. About 500 rounds of .22, 200rds of .223, 800-900rds of .45/.40/9mm/.380. I use a reloading tool so I'm saving my thumb. What's wrong with me? Maybe the trigger pull is too heavy or I'm just a wimp!

I checked with my doc and had some x-rays done - results were negative. It hurts on the first knuckle of the index finger (base of the finger) on the radial side/thumb side. Flexion, extension, rotation, and simply wagging your finger () hurts. I just got some acupuncture, maybe that'll help. I'm doing a hot wax/paraffin dip every night - it helps a little.

Maybe it's time to do some trigger work on my guns. Hopefully it isn't necessary. And, NO, I'm not selling my stuff! In the meanwhile, I'll just start shooting Lefty.

    Anyone sprained their finger?
I'm not having a glass of wine, I'm having SIX. It's called a tasting and it's classy.

I never sprained a finger, but if something like that happens to me, I hope it's not gonna be my middle one

You just bruised some tissue, nothing to worry about it. Ice it, rest, shoot more, and quit whining....(just kidding about the whining)

eh, what was the Doctors prognosis?? They should have given you exercises to do once your finger was 'stable' enough for rehabbing.

I know the routine 'generically' as my friend is a Dr. that specializes in this type of medicine.

You should really stop moving it or doing activities that are going to enflame the tendon(s). She mentioned to me (same as you) to go and have x-rays taken. I reported that nothing came back. She immediately fired off that while x-rays can show a lot, there's still a possibility that something might have torn.

I would recommend going back and seeing the doctor and specifically ask the following:

          1) What EXACTLY is wrong with it?
          2) what exercises/stretches can you do to help strengthen it?
          a) how soon can you start rehab?
          3) how long should it take to heal?
          4) what can you do to alleviate discomfort? (ice, ibupofen, etc etc?)

Dont' be a non-compliant patient. You use your hands and fingers everyday. Injuries like this can nag you for the rest of your life if you dont treat them properly.

Oh, and exactly how did you hurt yourself anyways??

Usually my gun is too sore to continue by the time the fingers are...
