When did California outlaw Machine guns

When did california outlaw silencers and machine guns and how did they implement those laws?

Did they have turn in or grandfathering in or were they just never allowed here?

I remember our company Knights Armament selling a GE Mini gun to a company out here in the mid 80's.

07FFLs are still able to build and possess NFA items for demonstration purposes.
I don't know if they can accept a transfer of a pre-1986 machine gun.

Yes I know about 07FFLs I actually worked for one several years back when I was still in So Cal. But I wasn't able to bring my FA guns there.

I was wondering when Cali made them illegal and how they went about stopping regular people from having them.

          Nothing specific from me.

Seems likely that it was around 1934, with the National Firearms Act.

There used to be quite a few Class 3 dealers in California. I remember seeing them at Pomona with M-16's. There were enough other Class 3's in the state, and possible visitors from out of state because the show was so big, that it was worthwhile bringing them to the show.

Not outlawed in 1934. Just needed to pay a tax.

Which was $200, then. That was a lot of money.

IF they can obtain a dangerous weapons permit from the state for MGs. 2a zone was denied multiple times, and we all know Jamie was well above the board in every aspect, although was able to hold cans for "demonstration" purposes.

In case it wasn't obvious, nothing I write here should be interpreted as legal advice.

An acquaintance told me he legally owned (ATF and State) a class 3 auto weapon in CA in the 70s. He is a plumber so no special treatment for him. He sold it later on.

Thanks - nice discussion of the 1953 DWCL here- https://www.casemine.com/judgement/u...d7b0493456675b, People v Corkrean, 1984

ETA and, of course, in 1953 it was 'get a permit', and that was not near-impossible as it is today.
