    Best firearms training near VC?

Alright gents, so while I have given my wife instruction at the range several times. She feels that she wants some formal firearms training so she feels more comfortable handling firearms (mainly for possible home defense if I'm working at night).

Putting ego to the side, I think that it's not a bad idea since I only have formal rifle training from the Marines, never did pistol training.

We live in Ventura County and I wanted to find something somewhat close hopefully. I would probably do it with her too to make it a date. Even though I have my CCW, more training is always good and I may learn something new.

So what do you guys recommend?

I've heard good things about them. I'll look into buying her a spot in a class. Do they do vouchers/gift cards? That way we can find the day that works best later on?

I am too far to help you with training, but I applaud you for putting your ego aside and getting her some formal training. It will be money well spent and you will likely notice that she enjoys it more after a formal class...

Covered six will probably be your closest, I’ve never been personally but heard good things. Phoenix Tactical solutions (he has some stuff on YouTube so you can get an idea of his criteria) and Simon cruz of double tap are at Angeles, I’ve shot with Simon, his beginner classes are super basic 101 (might be too basic for some at the low level but his initial courses were designed to mimic the nra pistol courses) and in bite size chunks, very safe. I was around a bunch of shooters at the GSSF shoot who really clearly never had formal instruction so good for you on getting her formal training. A class is only going to get you so far, you have to commit to shooting regularly outside of classes otherwise it will be wasted money. Stan of St Crispian Academy was tremendously enjoyable when I took him, if he is still around he’d be great, low ego.

Edit: not a replacement but check out Sage Dynamics and warrior poet society on YouTube, specifically anything to do with grip. I’ve been blessed to have received some good instruction and you can see many shooters with extremely poor grip fundamentals, one of the easiest ways to tell where a shooter is at before they pull the trigger is their support hand placement. If you search “John Lovell grip” and “sage dynamics grip” and combine what they teach with something like a MantisX you’ll be far ahead of most. There is of course trigger pull and sight alignment but (imho) the subtleties of grip people miss the most and something like mantisx will help with the trigger pull aspect as well.

I ended up pulling the trigger (no pun intended) on this location for the Women's Only Pistol Intro course. The instructor is a female who has 25 years of experience, 10 of that teaching, is an NRA instructor, and local CCW course instructor as well. It's a full day from 8-5, and 70min of actual range time during it.

I think this will be a good choice since it is close, and I can use the shotgun range when I'm there for a bit. Hoping to have it by then.

Please follow up and let us know how it went. They have some courses I am interested in attending.

                  Thanks,

Both of you should go to Front Sight. Short drive for a few days of great training. Can be had for less that $200 total for the both of you plus the cost of ammo.
