    CFARS... anyone experience this?

My brother applied for a serial number to record his AR that he built from an 80% a year or so ago. He received the serial number via email on Nov 20th, got it engraved. Went to upload pictures today and he got a notice saying it is passed the 10 days and the serial number is expired - he has to reapply etc... Looks like today is the 10th day from when they emailed him but the letter is dated Nov 19th. Either way he is dumb for missing it but it is what it is at this point.

He is instructed to reapply and get a new number but the question is, will the DOJ care when he uploads the new pictures and it shows two DOJ assigned serial numbers on the lower since he already got the expired on engraved (one FMBUS# expired and FMBUS# assigned)?

I'm helping him by trying to call the DOJ but you know how often they answer...

Just curious if anyone else has come across this.

In case anyone is wondering - just got confirmation from the DOJ that they will allow 2 FMBUS assigned serials on the rifle and that they will gladly accept another $35.

It's all about the money and hassle, it would seem.

Starting to sound easier and maybe even cheaper to just buy a serialized lower.

How can they only allow 10 days? That could put a lot of people out because some engravers are by appointment and sometimes more than 10 days out.

It has been for several years.
I bought 6 forged AR receivers in 2016 for $30 each with free shipping and then paid around $65 to dros all of them on one dros.
You can’t buy 6 forged 80% lowers for $245 out the door (lowers, shipping and USNA process).

Technically they generated the letter at 1am in the morning on the 19th - my brother received the email around 4pm on the 20th saying he had an approved s/n. Picked up the engraved lower last night. Logged in this am to up load the photos and got the notification that it is expired. So technically you only have 9 days and yes it our issue not the DOJs
