    Mosin Nagant bolt

So i just bought a Mosin Nagant 1891/30 and the bolt is a pain in the neck, because i cant mount a scope without it getting in the way. I know there are those bent bolts conversions sold on ebay and other websites, but i am trying to save where ever i can, are there any other cheaper alternatives. I was wondering if i could just buy or switch out the bolt handle from another similar gun, like a 30-06 or 308.. Unless someone has an extra bent bolt and wants to sale for a good price.

Attention. Do not attempt to use the bolt from another gun. I'm not even sure you could, but just don't try. Your face is pretty close to that bolt, and replacement parts for that are a real doozy.

As for an inexpensive sniper 91/30 build, not gonna happen. Unless you want to attempt a scout type mount with a long eye relief scope (the success of which is always hit or miss), the typical over-the-receiver mount is either very expensive or a pain to mount, pick either of those.

Those bent bolt handles can be found for $30-$40. How often they are sold at that price, I'm not sure.

Otherwise, you could mount a scout scope instead, which replaces the Mosin's rear sight base. Or mounts to it, something like that.

Scout scopes work if you use the right mount. I have a leaper's mount with an NCStar 2-7x mounted directly to the dovetail.

Make sure that you get a mount that is STEEL and not aluminum. Don't get the "tri-rail" mount either. I had two of them break on me.

Yes, but cheap which is why I bought them.

We do the bolt handle conversions, it isn't cheap, but it is done right and is a lot cheaper than trying to fish a broken thread tap out of your bolt

I had this guy make me one

$57 back in September, although I had to wait a couple of weeks for him to get new bolt bodies. great work done though!

Several days later the bolt was rusted shut but I guess the fouling wasnt TOO bad.

I picked one up at a recent Crossroads of the West gunshow here in Del Mar.
$30 (bolt body only) if I remember correctly. No complaints.

I made my own. I bought a second bolt body (saved the original one) and cut the bolt handle off. Then added a 1 1/2 inch piece of round stalk steel and welded it back together. Took about 2 hours to make from cut to polish.

Bottom rifle has the new bent bolt handle. The scope mount is of a unknown type that i found in a box of parts at a gun show. Drilled and tapped to the receiver. This rifle cost under $200 total but you will need to do most of your own work.

Headspace is rarely an issue on a rimmed cartridge. and on the mosin the bolt head and body are two separate pieces so you can swap out the bolt body and the headspace will stay the same if you use the same bolt head.

Springfield 45, How does that scope mount hold zero? I'm mighty impressed with your resourcefulness.
