There is a very large, well stocked gunshop near my house that is swarming with very polite, very friendly workers. It is kind of like the gun shop version of Chik-fil-e'
Anyhow, I've dropped by a few times and I went back this morning with some cash burning a hole in my pocket. I spied a Colt AR15A4 on the rack so without too much deliberation I made it mine. I had a Colt HBAR when I moved to CA in 1988 which I sold when the first assault gun registration started up so I decided to correct that mistake 30 some years later.
In the Army I went from the XM16E1 (BT) to the M14 (ROTC) to the M16A1 (active and ARNG) to the M16A2 (Army Reserve). I never shot the M16A4 on a range but did handle them. I only 'shot' the M4 on the indoor electronic range but still scored expert.
So, I got the A4. The process between "I'll take it" and "Here's your rifle" was about 10 minutes. Since I don't have a CC permit yet they called my info in to a federal clearing center which vouched for me.
We'll hit the range next week for a sight in session. I don't think the irons will work for me long-term so I may get a non magnifying optical sight for it since I already have an A4 type (but not Colt) with a 1.5-4.5x scope.
Did I need this? No. Did the wife roll her eyes and say 'don't you already have some others just like this one?" Yes. But I told myself that it is a Colt and someday it may be worth something to my one son who enjoys firearms and will escape CA soon, or my nephews who have their own gun collections outside of CA
