    Online Ammo Purchase

Hey guys I probably should have asked this earlier this year. Does CA require ammo transfer at a FFL at the moment? Can I still order them online from vendors such as freedom munition and have it shipped to my address?

    Thanks!

must be shipped to an FFL, you cannot receive it but if you're in southern California we receive them for no fee so at least there's that

Depends on the ffl that u ship to. Some charge a fee, others don’t. Some charge big fees and some reasonable ones. U have until July of 2019 to do it this way.
If you are in the east Bay Area, there r a couple shops that charge zero or $5 fee.
https://www.riddlecustomfirearms.com/services Is free if you pick up within the week. There is another close one that is $5 fee. Hook line and sinker in Oakley

Get your Calif. COE, certificate of eligibility, and a 03 FFL Curio & Relics license and you can order online and have it shipped direct to your home. Many online vendors that will do this. COE is approved almost instantly in most cases. 03 FFL may take 60 days. Plus you will be exempt from the new ammo permit and background check coming July 1, 2019.

Thank you for the info. I do have C&R (coe + ffl03), but I have not purchased ammo with that since the new regulation was in place. Could you recommend some online vendor that accept the C&R for ammo purchase? I used to buy ammo on freedom munition before the new rule and they do not exclusively mention C&R last time I checked their site.

TargetSportsUSA works well for me. Their "Prime" membership is another thing to consider based on amount and volume of purchases.

Yes but Target Sports is pretty good about including information for the buyer anyway so that's exactly right

Some charge no fee, most do. And all of them are required to collect the local sales tax on the purchase price. One place in Orange County wanted to not only charge a stiff fee but they also said they would collect sales tax on the full retail price of the ammo. That last part did not last long however.

That last part is pretty rough

Nobody who orders ammo online pays retail price. The whole idea of ordering online is to get ammo at sales prices rather than one box at a time in stores.

Sooo, how was this gouging outfit coming up with a number for "full retail" price.???

This thread is a good source. Typically you would set up an account for the vendor and then email a scanned copy of your COE and )# license. They keep it on record and when you place an order you would put in the notes section that your license info is on file. Each vendor may be different so verify before ordering.

Yes, I know that. What I was saying, apparently not clearly enough, was that at least one FFL in Orange County originally intended to not only collect a hefty fee but also charge you the sales tax as if you paid full retail regardless of the price you actually paid. They ultimately found out that they could not legally do that. Sales tax is paid on the actual purchase price.
