The title is a bit misleading; I owned ARs before moving to CA so I have used ARs in free states but not for 30 years.
Went to the range today, first shooting in 6 months due to rotator cuff surgery. Shot my A4 and carbine. Each time I finished a magazine I instinctively reached for a tool to pop the magazine out via the now absent bullet button. I must have done that 5 times before I shook the habit!
Loaded up a couple 30 round magazines just to say I did it and fired them off. I actually favor 20 round magazines as I first used in my early Army days.
The range was really crowded: 4 others on the 550 yd range and 2 shooters on the pistol range. I had the rifle line to myself for the last 45 min. Don't know if I can handle this crowded range!
I was able to hit with the A4 and 4x scope to 300 yards but beyond that I needed more magnification for my tired eyes which I didn't have.
I fell in love with the flat top A4 all over again. Nothing better for my type of lazy shooting than a heavy barrel AR with a two stage RRA trigger.
The AR carbine is nice and light and ok to 200 yards but doesn't hang nicely for further distances due to the light barrel.
Still and all, what a great day at the range. Low 50s and sunny, and lots of gabbing with young guys about ARs, M1 rifles, and history.
Just felt like sharing because the wife could care less once it was determined I didn't accidentally shoot myself at the range.
