Custom CZ SP-01 compensator??

Hi Calgunians,

I was wondering if it is at all possible to have a compensator made like the match weights for HK's made for a CZ SP-01?

What if the comp was connected to the rail and not a threaded barrel? Anyone know anyone who can have a custom one made?

I understand its a 9mm handgun
I understand its one of the best handguns you can buy.
I understand recoil is minimal because of the weight of the gun.
I understand it is not neccessary

but i just want a compensator on my gun and don't want to deal with all the legalities of having a threaded barrel.

It it's not on the barrel, it cannot be very precise fit, so the compensator has to be larger than the barrel bore to prevent bullet from hitting it. For example, look at "bushing compensators" for 1911.

There is no reason you shouldn't be able to add one, it's just that it might not work all that well. You likely won't feel the difference at all.

If you look at Open guns, they not only have very specialized compensators that are part of the barrel, but they also shoot higher gas volume caliber (38 super) with hand picked powders (to create extra gas and burn at specific rate) and fine tuned loads that maximize the amount of gas that leaves to the side.

so essentially if the comp is not a part of the barrel its just extra weight at the front.

so my best bet would be to look for a threaded barrel and have a comp permanently attached.

Legally doesnt it just need to be pinned and welded to be g2g with a threaded barrel? Have you contacted CZ Custom in AZ and seen if you can send them the slide and barrel for that kind of work?

I would say that there is a pretty good chance that it's just an extra weight, but it's still best to measure performance before such a generalization. You can search YouTube for "Open gun compensator load development" to get some ideas.

The key in evaluation is to know what you're trying to improve, then measure it. For 9mm and other light recoiling rounds, it's not the recoil, it's the muzzle raise you want to minimize. The wimpy push back is not preventing you from shooting fast. The muzzle raising above the target is. This is why compensators are often combined with barrel porting and why their shapes tend to be asymmetric.

It you're mechanically inclined, it would be a fun project to create a compensator and then provide a review here.

There are two types of guns when it comes to compensators and disassembly: those that require muzzle to pass through the slide and those that require breach to pass through the slide.

If it's "muzzle through the slide," a fixed compensator will prevent disassembly. CZ is in this category. These guns need a threaded barrel. The "breach through the slide" are 1911/2011 with bushing. Those can have really nice compensators that are permanently attached to the barrel, without affecting disassembly and cleaning.

As far as I know, there isn't a good substitute for threaded barrel for CZs and similar guns.
