Thinking of hiring a professional photographer to take pics of my guns.

It's a savings measure. If I keep sexy pics of my guns in my office, I figure I won't be tempted by the new ones that come out.

I got to find the guy who shot the P938 legion pics. I just got rid of one a few months ago but tempted to buy one again, even though it's absolutely useless for my purposes.

My dad did it with his 1911 collection. Had multiple shots of over 50 pistols in a light box. The images came out great. We have them in a leather bound photo album. The pain in the *** was when he made me type up captions for all those pictures... Haha

Buy a photography book with emphasis on lighting and still life. It will be a lot cheaper than hiring a true professional.

That is probably true. The photographer who did the photos for my dad was a friend and fellow gun enthusiast that owed him for some engine work.

I have seen online that you can make a DIY light box for cheap. There are probably good tutorials on how to adjust the settings on your camera or even your phone to take good pictures.

I think a true professional will still be cheaper than unrestricted gun purchasing on my part!

              Here you go.

Most any cell phone takes pro or near pro quality pictures nowadays.
Set up in the garage and get a few prints made. It is pictures of guns after all and guns are photogenic.

You need a pro if you like to make an ugly bride look pretty in pictures.

Oh, buy a new gun with the money you saved.

An Illuminated studio cube might help you control the lighting to duplicate the attached SIG photo.

Photobucket is running a special right now, you can get an 11x14” easel back canvas print for $13.20. I’ve used them before, they did a good job.

                          All you really need is:
Camera (iphone will do ... for now)
Space in the garage or a free bedroom
Large enough box, paper, and lights
A free weekend day (1/2 creating, 1/2 day snapping pics)

Step1: Assemble 'Light Tent' / 'Photo Cube' / 'Light Box' - so many DIYs online
                          Step2: Place object in box
                          Step3: Take pictures

I shoot my own pictures of my guns. I use a Canon Rebel EOS that I bought back in 2011. I run my pictures through a Photoshop like program and can achieve pretty good results.

                            The secret is to:

                            A: Avoid cluttered backgrounds.

                            B: Get the lighting right.

C: Keep your feet out of the picture.

                            Here are some quick tips:

Remember to frame the picture correctly and watch the light. Glare is a killer and if you are trying to photograph really shiny guns it tends to wash out the details. It helps to tilt them up at a slight angle to make the light a bit more indirect.

This is a general grouping of WWI items. Notice how it is a little crowded and some of the details are lost in the clutter.

Better to take a picture of an individual item and then concentrate on certain details.

I can say with certainty that having pictures of your guns is not going to stop you from buying more of them. I've been taking pictures of my junk for many years and it hasn't slowed my gun buying habit at all.

I use something like this, it's a good start and not much money:

Helpful hint: no fluorescent lighting with digital camera, it makes things yellowish.
This photo was taken using a Sony Cyber Shot camera on a tripod, all standard settings since I am a newb.
The photo was resized, with brightness turned down a little and contrast turned up just a little.
This photo is just a taste blurry as the tripod I was using then has springy bendable legs that don't hold the camera super steady.
having the camera not moving as the picture is taken really adds to clarity of detail.
This is the blue background material that comes with the above light box kit:
