I've been attempting to perfect my shooting speed with my NAA mini but I cannot overcome the single action aspect and the fastest that I can accurately shoot all 5 rounds is about 3.1-3.5 seconds. Given the small caliber I figured it's probably best to fire 2 or 3 rounds at your assailant. However, given the fact that it's single action and therefore needs to be cocked before every shot would you guys consider the NAA mini as a weapon to use against an assailant carrying only a knife, bat, broken glass bottle, ect. or would you guys consider the NAA mini as a suitable weapon to use against an assailant carrying a gun? I know that carrying a large caliber firearm would be the way to go but if the NAA mini was all you had against an assailant armed with a gun would you guys feel confident engaging the assailant with the NAA mini or would you rather try to make a run for it or comply with the assailant's demands because using the NAA mini against an assailant carrying a gun is more likely to get you killed than help you?

NAA Mini: Real or Novelty?
Collapse

How often are people attacked by a squirrel carrying a gun?
Joking aside, I have two NAA mini revolvers (original mini and a black widow) and they are a fun novelty. You could certainly kill a person if the shot is placed in the right spot, but you'd be slow and you'd further undermine the power of the .22 by shooting it from a very short barrel. Better than nothing, for sure...sigpicNRA Benefactor Member -
I carry my 1 1/8 inch NAA every day.... Absolutely better than nothing and you don't even notice it on you any more than a knife.
See the reviews by Hicock 45 and the others for within 7 yards performance.
More popular here as NAA is made here in Provo.Last edited by Dan_Eastvale; 11-13-2018, 6:09 AM.Comment

Lots of videos of people shooting themselves with that revolver
Shot placement is key
In the bad person, or target, not your forearm.
Why are you trying to race with that revolver?Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)
Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Both real and a novelty.
I haven't shot mine for a couple of years but took it along with four other pistols to my live fire CCW qualification a couple of weeks ago and now it's on my permit with the four other pistols.
The guy next to me was qualifying with a .22 Ruger MKIII and a few other pistols.Last edited by nickel plate; 02-21-2021, 8:57 AM.Comment

If you're trying to improve your speed (over accuracy, because let's face it if you're using that thing you're probably standing close to the bad guy) I've seen videos of people "fanning the Hammer" of the slightly larger NAA .22 caliber revolvers ( just like those cowboy movie actors used to do with their Colt Single Action Army revolvers).
I don't think I've seen anyone try it with their smallest Mini version, with it's micro sized grip though.
Personally, I would probably not try that and definitely not in a in a self-defense situation but I would get a model with one of the larger grips they have even if it has a shorter barrel and regardless of what type of .22 ammo it shoots.
Also my thoughts on buying the .22 magnum version are that you're probably not getting much more velocity out of any of their very small barrels and gas escaping out of the cylinder gap to make it worth the extra money you pay for .22 magnum ammo over just buying .22 caliber ammo,
which would importantly lets you practice a lot more.
And a gun like that is going to need to practice, practice, practice if you want to hit Carnegie Hall.
Don't get me wrong, if you have the magnum version you definitely want to used magnums for defense but I think lots of practice with safety in mind would be the thing to focus on whichever model you have.
And lastly in regards to your title because of the better quality of the NAA stainless steel pistol design I would put it out of the toy category unlike a lot of other cheap micro guns like Davis derringers or Cobra derringers which are sometimes made of zinc pot metal, are poorly designed in my opinion and mainly meant just for entertainment and never to be relied on when the chips are down.Comment

They're pretty cool, I'll probably get one someday just for the novelty. The price is definitely right.
I can't add one to my CCW (minimum .25 caliber restriction), nor would I want to (3 gun maximum, and all 3 spots are already filled with guns I'd rather carry). So in reality, it would never, ever be used for defensive purposes.
But they sure do look entertaining to shoot, and definitely a conversation starter at parties. Or a conversation ender, depending on the party.
Be careful trying to cock and shoot the thing too fast, especially "fanning the hammer" - the thing is so small that you could accidentally shoot your hand.Last edited by CandG; 11-13-2018, 12:01 PM.Comment

OP, are you for real. I find something odd/fishy about your posts. Here is a piece from your post in December of 2015.I've been attempting to perfect my shooting speed with my NAA mini but I cannot overcome the single action aspect and the fastest that I can accurately shoot all 5 rounds is about 3.1-3.5 seconds. Given the small caliber I figured it's probably best to fire 2 or 3 rounds at your assailant. "Thanks for the info, this is exactly what I wanted to know before buying the NAA mini LR as my primary CCW piece. May I ask what type of standard velocity LR you typically use? Also, you mention that..."
So it has taken you 3 years and now you wanna go Billy the kid with a NAA MINI?

It's one loud gun for a little 22. If nothing else will scare the hell out of some unsuspecting thug.
