Turning a liberal to a liberal gun owner?

Recently a very liberal cousin has expressed interest in becoming a gun owner. Her reason/reasons are unstated to this point.I hope to change a mind that has been anti-gun.
We agreed to meet at a club I frequent.I plan to go over basic safety, explain the differences in handgun types, then shoot a few rounds.
I have already pointed her in the direction of a gun safety class for women, taught by women.
Changing minds one at a time...

All it takes is a mugging to turn a lib into moderate gun owner. Or A Shooting like in TO.

Good luck with your project--I hope you're successful. A couple years ago I had a similar opportunity with a hyper-liberal friend of ours. For some time, she had been begging me to take her shooting--I think she vaguely thought that she might get a self-defense handgun at some point. Anyway, we finally went, and she had a lot of fun shooting a 22 pistol.

Just before the last presidential election (MAGA, baby!) she sent me an email literally begging me to vote for Hillary. Some people simply can't be convinced to listen to reason.

So, she's not going to vote for democrats anymore?
"Did I say "republic?" By God, yes, I said "republic!" Long live the glorious republic of the United States of America. Damn democracy. It is a fraudulent term used, often by ignorant persons but no less often by intellectual fakers, to describe an infamous mixture of socialism, miscegenation, graft, confiscation of property and denial of personal rights to individuals whose virtuous principles make them offensive." - Westbrook Pegler

It doesn't matter. I have a cousin and a few friends who are liberals and gun-friendly. When it comes to the polls, the million reasons they vote left still outweighs the fun they have when they shoot.

I've heard of them. Isn't it also known as The Cognitive Dissonance club?

My cousin, a very liberal lesbian, informed me she wanted to get a gun because her neighborhood is "becoming bad". I told her I'd be happy to take her to the range and show her the basics and let her fire a few rounds of different guns I have so she can see what she feels comfortable with. I told her to give me a call when she is ready. Haven't heard from her in two years.
I will stand for truth even if I stand alone.

I'm all for converting anti-gunners. But make sure you sort out the reason why she wants one and that it makes sense. Liberals have some pretty nutty ideas about things sometimes.

Also make sure you have a very serious and real conversation with her about the taking of a human life and whether she thinks she could kill someone if she had to. Because if she can't answer a very strong "yes" to that question, she has no business getting one...at least if personal defense is her reason.

                          Definitely tread lightly!

Anyone over 40 who survived that long without being interested or concered enough to own one just might not be ready for the burden and responsibility. Because "I hate Trump" isn't a reason for anyone to buy a gun.

If that is their reason then steer them away from it!

^^^ this. Pulling a weapon on someone without the resolve to use it may see it getting turned on the owner.

While I applaud people trying to turn liberals into gun owners, as already stated, guns will take a VERY distant backseat to all the other liberal ideology. Especially in Calif.

I doubt very much there will ever be a higher level Calif politician that will every be pro-gun or spout such.
