question for you Pelican case owners...

So I'm looking at picking up a Pelican 1560 case with the 'pick n pluck' foam -- for transporting/locking handguns up in an SUV for extended road trips.

My question is -- does the depth of the foam equal the interios depth of the case?

If I want the foam layers to equal the full depth of the case, do I need to buy more foam? (for crying out loud the cases are expensive enough...).

    thanks/cheers,

No, there's a layer of foam at the top and bottom, and then there is one or more layers of "pick n pluck". For the 1560, there are two layers of "pick n pluck" foam.

The foam as provided in the foam pack will completely fill the case.

Yes it does...at least on the 1750 cases. The middle layer on both of mine were solid layers which I had to cut myself.

One thing about the price. When it comes to Pelican, you absolutely get what you pay for. My Pelican is *#)&% AWESOME. I've owned two 1750s now...I traded away my first one, and spent the next month saving up to buy another one. The foam cushions the rifles really well, the cases are made incredibly well, and it really does become the last case you ever have to buy (unless, of course, you keep growing your collection, in which case you need more cases).

        Trash,

        I have a Model 1650.

        1" foam on the bottom.

        3.5" pick/pluck foam (middle)

        3.5" pick/pluck foam (top)

1.5" eggcrate foam in the lid.

2 layers fits about 14 revolvers

I don't use the pick/pluck squares to outline the gun, just sandwich the revolvers between the layers.

        Hope that helps.

This is what I'm planning to do -- I was going to pull one set of squares (per gun) from both layers so I could slide the guns in there vertically.

          cheers, and thanks -
