Coalinga Rifle Club might be within an hour of your area.

Linden gun range is nice. Not really “long range,” but I think they have a 200 yard rifle range.

We go up to Candy Rock it's not long range but we go there for any rapid fire or testing of our components plus we can pick up some free range scrap while there. Best bet would be to wait til Panoche Hills opens, hopefully after the first or second rains.. Quick call to BLM a day or two before you plan to go would help.

Yes, a common issue. However, as others mention you can shoot NRA Midrange matches (300-600yds) or NRA LR/Palma matches (800-1,000yds). Every club I've shot at is friendly with a newbie and usually not hard-core competitive. Consider it 22-minute practice sessions for each course of fire.

We make the drive often from 209, 2 hours on I5 if you are flying...2.5 hours if you stay close to the posted 70.

I am a non voting member of Folsom Shooting Club (Sac Valley Shooting Center). Living in Lodi area takes me about 45 minutes to get there. To say it's a nice range is a understatement. They do have a 300 yard range open to the public except for Tuesday & Wednesday. More details here...
