Reid Henrichs pistol cleaning

Hey all,

I see when Reid (he owns and runs a gun school in Tennessee I think it is...lots of experience) cleans his pistols, he lubes with grease vs oil. Somewhere else I remember someone saying they prefer grease over oil.

Being somewhat of a newer gun owner of just 2 years, the only way I have been cleaning is hoppes and then oil.

Anyone here have much experience using grease instead and if you do use grease then why?

What I have found is that every gun enthusiast I know uses the best possible gun lubricant known to man. Every time the conversation turns to cleaning and lubing firearms someone, or everyone, will say, "you need to use brand x, it's the best."

Brian Enos is also a proponent of grease.

I have been suckered into buying many different oils/grease/lubricants/conditioners etc for guns over the years. Not one has ever caused a gun of mine to malfunction. Nor can I say that any one has caused a gun of mine to function noticeably better.

My guess is proper cleaning and properly lubricating is likely more important than lube choice.....so long as you are using one of the hundreds of reputable gun lubes.

I edited my original post to help some of you out on why the Reid reference. I mentioned Reid as a source because he has lots of experience and chooses the grease method but didn't say why, so I was hoping someone here with some experience could chime in...thanks

Grease is for sliding parts.
Oil is for rotating parts.

Grease is just oil with a sticky carrier to hold it where you put it.

Plus one. That said there are exceptions.
