    Firearms in France

My wife dragged me on a long road trip. I did my own side stops along the way.
    LGS in Bordeaux, France.

They have to buzz you in.

12 month process for first purchase but once cleared the whole world is open limited only by your bank account.

They were great. The minute I started to butcher their language the owner says it's ok I speak English. My "French" wife openly laughed.

He apologized for their current inventory and said
"I know this isn't much compared to what you have in the US but it's a big deal here."
I told him it's ok, I'm from California and he said "Oh, my condolences..."

He's a fellow IPSC/USPSA shooter. He invited me to bring my gear next time I come visit. He said he'd help me cruise the process of shopping or flying with my gear to compete/shoot there.

He also said there's a lot of illegal handguns in France. The number one illegal gun in France is the 1911 - left over from various French conflicts in Africa and the world wars.

He said they do very well. His current favorite is the G45. He told me to forget the 19X he pointed out a couple of things that were deal breakers regarding the 19X. He can't keep CZs and Glocks in stock! I was surprised to hear him say that the 97b is the most popular CZ he sells.
We had a great chat and staying in touch. My wife got bored and went shopping someplace else.[emoji38]

do you have to keep the guns at the store or can you keep them in your house?

I'm pretty sure that if you buy it, you walk out with it. He did mention that the ROE for defensive use of firearms is super stringent.

I didn't specifically ask for that one but he let me play with a bunch. I was already in a huge sugar high from that candy store. This might have been one.

So California is more restrictive than France by a long shot when it comes to what one can legally own. Wow, never would I have guessed that.

the French have more firearms freedom than the Ca?

except for the the 12 month process for the first purchase

He said there's a 12 month process to get your first firearm. Then it's easier from there on.
