    DYI Ear muff upgrades ???

Being a pilot and using some very good quality ANR hearing protection in small planes (Lightspeed Zulu), I have been very disappointed in the quality of electronic hearing protection in the shooting realm. Main beefs are 1) uncomfortable ear cup seals, and 2) low ANR reduction.
(and NO, not into doubling up for a number of reasons)

So, being a tinkerer, decided on some DIY upgrades to my Walker Razors.
First was the pads. Why is it so hard to find gel seals? It is standard issue with any quality flying headset. Finally found Noisefighters and so far, a fantastic upgrade.
Noisefighters delivers premium hearing protection and night vision accessories to those serving on the front lines.

Why are they so hard to find and why doesnt everyone have gel seals for day long range sessions?

Next idea is increasing the quality of foam in the ear cup. Stock foam in the Walker is cheap with poor coverage. Thinking if I can decrease noise going into the cup, less the electronics has to work. Oregon Aero has a 'hush kit' for aviation headsets that uses blue (medium) memory foam inside the cups.
Has anyone tried this? or any other foam upgrade?
If not, I will take one for the team and experiment. Will report what I find.

Other logical ideas for DIY upgrades welcome.
    (again, not counting double up)

    Here's what I want:
    • 40NRR
    • 10 year life from off-the-shelf batteries
    • gel cups
    • small enough package I can shoulder rifles with
    • Bluetooth

Noisefighters are awesome. I remember when they did their kickstarter not too long ago

You can find quality shooting hearing protection, but it will cost the same as an airline headset. Look at pro ears.

Also, the electronics don't reduce the sound. They amplify voices (but not gunshots) so you can hear people despite the protection.
