Either guns on CCW permit? Or found it at his residence and traced to the FFL through the manufacturer's records.

Please note that there are no federal prohibitions on state maintained and operated databases, nor are there any restrictions on the ATF "Forward Trace" process where the ATF initiates a paper trace with a firearm manufacturer, and then the manufacturer runs an automated trace through their distribution channels to identify the end purchaser. I've seen forward traces come back in as little as 20 minutes.

The only prohibition on a database that I'm aware of is that the federal government cannot maintain an automated record of sales. But that leaves an awful lot of entities that can maintain such a database.

And these statistics mean absolutely nothing yet the powers to be and the media just had to point this out. How many guns has the average Cal Guns member or any American gun owner purchased since 1996?

Allegheny County TRIED to establish a local database in the '90's (because it's been run by unionized libtards since the 1920's ), but the NRA successfully sued to make them stop.

          Apparently... they DIDN'T.

Also I thought FFL 4473 says it doesn't archive demographic info only.. And when FFL goes out of business ATF takes the 4473s but doesn't archive demographics. The other info? Don't think it specifies. Or does it?
And maybe they found receipts in residence or he bragged about purchases in Gab.

how hard could it be? If it was a california resident, it would take a single phone call from FBI to DOJ, and they'd look it up in APPS. It would literally take 5 minutes. Lots of states have all kinds of records, not sure about PA. The whole purpose of the FBI - is to investigate. So they'd call and talk to other agencies. The article of course doesn't say "the FBI was able to determine without contacting anyone else...". In fact, it only says "law enforcement" and doesn't even say FBI anywhere. So it's quite a stretch to use this as an example of a federal database existing.

The "6 known purchases" could very well mean "we found 6 guns in the back of the van and reverse traced the serial numbers". It could also be that they looked up what gunstore he bought the rifle from and found 5 more 4473s at the same place in the same name.

We don't need to break out the tinfoil hats quite yet.

PA does not use NICS. It uses PICS and the PA police maintain a sales database.

If the feds kept a database they would only have a NICS database and they would only know if the gun was a handgun rifle or other. NICS does not get make model or serial number. Then there are all the transfers that do not require a NICS due to CCW permit exemptions.

There is no easily accessed database per federal law. There is still a database. FFLs are the database. It is missing lots of info like cash and carry and pre 68 purchases.

Does anyone think that when a DROS is done the DOJ just forgets that information, it disappears from their records and is not searchable?

Wanna know where 4473s end up? The feds know about our guns.

It happens here, in a massive West Virginia building, in the most absurd way possible.
