Something I noticed at the last two gun shows...

Ok, I didn't notice it, my friend pointed it out to me, but...

Last week, we went to a gun show and there was table after table of evil black rifles just sitting there. Heck, we even started seeing breeds we'd never seen before or hadn't seen lately: lots of AR-15s (not many around the past month or more), some PS-90s and even MSAR STG 556 rifles (there were six at three different tables last weekend!!!).

This week at a slightly smaller show, saw another MSAR and another PS-90, and a lot more ARs. One vendor still had two AR-15 LPKs in stock after noon!

Could it be? Is the tide of crazy panic buying letting up a bit?

Ammo was still scarce, though. And accessory prices seem to have risen a bit here and there, though I think the accessory guys have just decided to cash in...

    Thoughts?

The MSAR is unique but not a Steyr, so I just don't see the specialty behind it at it's high-price. When it comes down to it, it's just .223 and I think SIG's 556 is a better gun and still costs less.

The PS-90 is overpriced. Looks nifty that's abut it. Would be a great item to have at say $1500, but upwards of $2500. Not worth it to me.

And so many people have overdosed on ARs, it will inevitably come to a head out of default. In these crazy-priced times, more people are simply buying spare AR receivers as a cost-deflection simply to get the ability to build a gun cheaper later, rather than overpaying for fully built rifles.

Even when you go to SHOT show, you will see a section of a LOT of black rifles.

I agree, some prices appeared to be coming down at the Vallejo shows; some sellers, however, seem to think that their items are made of gold. Those sellers I just laughed at, shook my head and walked away. I can wait.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

I saw lots of AR's in the law enforcement section and in 06 at the las vegas convention center they were serving tap beer late in the pm which we really enjoyed.

I think the tide of crazy panic buying is easing up a bit. The local gun shop's inventory is increasing, in both ammo and firearms. Hell, they had an M1A in there for about a week, when in the past they wouldn't last a day!

Umm.. I wasn't really commenting on how nice the variety was since the move, though that certainly improved. Let me break it down a little more simply.

1/09: Arrive in SA. Start going to gun shows almost weekly. Way more guns than CA shows, but nowhere near the selection, especially in black rifles, as the show I went to in Pasadena TX 10/07.

2/09: Still diddly as far as ARs and AKs. WASR AKs over a grand, AR lowers $350 minimum, can't find LPKs anywhere (my friend has been trying so he can build his son's AR).

3/09, first half of the month: Still no LPKs. Lots of "I can't even get them" from vendors. Very few AR lowers or uppers, almost no complete rifles. WASRs still over a thousand bucks most of the time.

Last two weekends: We found LPKs in stock, even on Sunday! Not many, sure, but.. Stripped AR lowers found for $200. Found somewhat harder to find black rifles like the MSAR and PS-90s.

                    Get my point?

Hah. My friend is a jerk about that. He's of the "you know, you can buy these for $X at Y" where Y is usually the internet.

Ammo is still scarce, but I've been able to find what I need. Heck, the ammo guy still had 7.62x39 in stock yesterday afternoon. Still too expensive, but the fact that he had any was a good sign. The fact that it was commercial, not milsurp, and he had two brands is great news!

I do that. Guys that are price gouging deserve it.
