Any one catch that on the history channel? What did you think?

Though it was okay.
Thought it kinda turned into a H&K HK416/XM8 commerical at the end.

Yes that was kinda funny as the program started by praising the gas impingement and ended saying that the gas piston is the way to go (HK 416)

My thoughts too, and it was very effective as such, 'cuz now I want a 416.
What ever happend to the XM8? Wasn't that design dropped due to overheating issues?

It kept showing a M2ish looking rifle with a 30 rounder and saying M16A1 and it showed the same Rifle when it was talking about late 50's Stoner prototypes... Only real Nam footage had Aluminium 20 rounders. but all in all it was a nice show full of information & visuials ...

Did you notice, when they were talking about the North Hollywood shootout, that the detective they were interviewing commented on how the guns that Phillips and Matasareanu used were AKs, and AKs were designed to fire rounds that could penetrate a tank. WTF!?!? I sure would like to find out where these mythical 7.62x39mm tank buster rounds can be purchased. I need a few cases.

I watched it and didn't think it was that great, especially about the AK tank-penetrating round comment.

Is the the HK 416 just a gas upper?

Liked the concept of the HK 416, the only gas impingement semi auto that I own now is an M-16A1 (retro clone), had a Ljungman but I sold it. Anyone priced a HK416 or even better a 417? I would be more interested in a 7.62 platform. I dont know if ADDAX is working on one, barring the design have some serious flaws I would go with the ADDAX.

It was a boring show that had factual issues and never really touched on any real history of the m-16 and focused on sensationalist storys, The producers of the show are lazy. The north Hollywood segment went on and on and what did that really have to do with the m-16 but a minute out of the 8 minutes spent. They also misidentified the magazine used in the AR rifle used by one suspect. as a double drum with 200 rounds instead of a beta mag with 100 rounds. Lazy, boring and sloppy is all I saw.

We are sticking to 6.8 and 6.5G.

We have a 6.8 model and we are currently retrofitting 6.5G's uppers.

Cool thing to know, not into the tactical thing. Into killing paper at long range, 6.5G might be an option later down the road. Some 6.5 bullets have good characteristics.
