Do any of you guys shoot on public lands? If so, where are the closest areas to Orange county where shooting is legal?

I've gone to BLM's land in Palomar, off of the 74.

there is no public place to shoot in socal near the OC unless you wanna get arrested or shot!

You have any directions to this BLM land? I have been going to BLM out near Indio. Is this area on the busy side or more remote?

Can you shoot on Cleveland National Forest land in the San Juan/Riverside area if you hike in far enough to be over the ridges out and away and not visible from Ortega highway? This terrain is very steep and in the right spot, backstop selection shouldn't be a problem. Getting away from the highway will be a ton of climbing/hiking though. Fire season is also a consideration of course. IIRC, an inquiry I made about 2 years ago with the ranger by phone produced a response that .22 hunting for varmint is legal in the right season. Is target shooting legality a problem in this area? Foresee other problems?

Some places have laws that state shooting is illegal unless you are hunting, or as they call it, the lawful pursuit of game animals(I think). I think your best bet is to find BLM owned land that doesn't have any signs saying shooting is prohibited.
