Law enforcement officials have seized 111 firearms and more than 27,000 rounds of ammunition from Californians under a new effort to confiscate weapons from people who have been barred from owning them, authorities announced Tuesday.

So from The Narrative of the article you would surmise that these weapons were once legally purchased, now they're illegal because the person who bought them is now prohibited. Got it!

Not a very good record - 224 cases only got:
the operation has resulted in 35 arrests. It is expected to end this December. Among the cache of weapons authorities confiscated were 56 handguns, 21 shotguns and 24 rifles, as well as 50 high-capacity magazines.

BTW 27,000 rounds of ammo is only 27 bricks of 22LR. I've got 1/2 that in the bedroom closet.

Nice AR-180 in there among several firearms that indicate these were part of a nice collection, not some pawn-shop specials and flimsy throw-away guns.

The shame of it is that we don't know from the article except for one vague anecdote or neighbors calling for a man's rights to be voided without due-process, any certainty as to just what led to these people being "prohibited persons" and their 2nd Amendment rights absconded.

It could have been a major crime, sure, but if they are still out on the street walking around, isn't that a problem? They would be no less violent without a gun than with, and they'll be apt to simply find something else to use.

This is a perfect example of that:

How does the legislature help you enforce existing laws? They don't. Now he may mean to get more funding for their Stalinistic pursuits, but I doubt it.

That statement is clear that he wants to make "new crimes" and add new infractions to the list of what makes a person prohibited from their 2nd Amendment rights. As we have seen of late, they want to include all sorts of things that are misdemeanors and non-violent actions.

Pretty soon, you'll be a prohibited person for having not paid a parking ticket, for littering, for lighting off fireworks, for calling someone a epithet that is then deemed by that person to be a "hate crime", or for mere allegations by a woman who says you sexually assaulted her more than 35 years ago at a party but she has no proof, no witnesses, can't recall where it happened, when it happened, not even the house or neighborhood, but is sure it was you and only revealed her story when she found out you owned firearms.

Looks like some collectors lost their hoards - those aren't drug dealer guns.

Looking at those guns, I think some of them were probably confiscated from people trying to register them, but may have misunderstood the law and tried to register weapons in a now-illegal configuration. As other have said, they are a bit nicer than the usual stuff you see from prohibited persons.

I could be wrong, of course.
