Use your old DL. As long as it's not punched it's good.

What law states that we must have a "real ID" to purchase firearms?

If so, I'll just use my passport.

I drove to Paso Robles to do it the second time, got an appointment the next day.
I'm in Pismo. Santa Maria DMV might be better than SLO ... when the time comes.

Went to two gun shops today. No problem, both said that they would accept both.

A passport does not work for buying firearms in the state of California.

I went down and got a real ID driver's license. New number, expires in eight years, new address, new State. Now when I go to CA, I am visitor, not a resident.

The DMV made no mention of a REAL-ID. I assumed (later) that this was because my DL wasn't set to expire until 2019. The replacement CA DL has the same expiration date as the DL that I thought I had lost. The only change is the Federal Limits Apply designation on the upper right hand corner of the replacement license.
They did what you paid for. They replaced your 'lost' DL with a new DL. They can't go back in time to issue the old style.

There are umteen topics in here on the RealID issue. Not requesting that is on you.

You are now identified in the state of California as an illegal alien. Congratulations!
