    Question.

Never purchased a C&R gun or rifle.

Do I need an 03/COE to purchase something C&R off Gunbroker without going through my FFL (for example)? Or is an FFL unavoidable?

C&R long guns can ship right to you with just a C&R.
C&R handguns have to go through an 01FFL if you are shipping them into CA.

What is a Certificate of Eligibility (COE)? A “Certificate of Eligibility” certifies the Department of Justice (DOJ) has checked its records and determined the recipient is not prohibited from acquiring or possessing firearms at the time the firearms eligibility criminal background check was performed.

Thank you, I misspoke. I have a reminder in my phone to renew but as I understood they provide a mailing reminding of the expiry date.

Good practice to have a reminder set. I just blew past my COE renewal a month or so ago because of my own user error on my reminder and CA DOJ didn't send any reminders. Luckily within the window to renew rather than reapply with new LiveScan etc. Not going to make the same mistake again or with the FFL03.

Yes, when I renewed the COE I read the window was 90 days past or have to re apply.
Good that you caught that. I had the COE renewal within 24 hrs of coughing up the $22

C&R Long guns shipping in from out of state have had to go through FFL dealers since 1/1/2015. No more home delivery at all.

In Idaho you can still use the C&R to order C&R guns and have them delivered to your door...

Well, now I wish I bought factory ammo, but all mine is hand loaded for each rifle or pistol, with some being wildcats. I already have enough rimfire to last be until the funeral. :-)
