Because it's California and it's kind of a mine field anymore figuring out what's legal and what's not. I saw pending legislation and wanted to be sure nothing had been passed. Looked like they wanted to limit to nothing more than level III. Thank You for the quick answer. Visiting my kids. Left Cali in 1997.

Body armor is often on the anti-gun wish list. It's a low(ish) hanging fruit for politicians who want to build their resumes.

It's prudent to check body armor and knife laws in any state where you are traveling if you're going to possess either.

Perfectly legal but you will get some strange looks from everyone walking around the streets of CA in level IV plates. You may find it hard to get seating in the nicer restaurants as well...

I've checked the knife laws and I can't even carry the clip on folder that is an everyday tool for me. As to the vest, there is a very good reason for me to bring it with me, which I won't go into here. I hope it's all for naught. I'm retired L.E., not a mall ninja. Thanks Again for your answers.

Vests with at least level IV soft armor should be REQUIRED in Oakland!

I thought that the highest rated soft armor is IIIa.
