    Guns In Travel Trailer

    Howdy,

Bought an Airstream trailer and gonna be full time RV'er for a while. Family in CA so I'll be there eventually....

I understand traveling with firearm in vehicle rules/laws but unsure about my travel trailer.

I'll only bring 1 or 2, either Springfield XDE and/or a Colt 1911 80 series. Colt for sure!

Can I haul it locked in trailer locked and loaded? Or does it need to be separate from ammo etc...

(I was about to write "I assume.." but snapped out of it! ) I of course want it at arms length when I'm in the trailer no matter where I am. Does CA recognize a trailer as one's home or is it based upon where you are?

    Thanks,

    Hayduke

Your trailer would be your residence.

Risky, but my 5th Wheel is my home on wheels.
      Here's a good read:
It's not the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop at the bottom.

It(Trailer) is your residence when it is NOT moving and can have your firearm loaded and not in a locked container. But not in the tow unit. While driving it can be in the trailer or tow unit if unloaded and in a locked gun case/lock box. Ammo(mags) can be with the pistol but NOT inserted into the pistol.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

          THIS.

          it's a vehicle while moving.

          It's a residence while camped.

Loaded and accessible while in a residence.

Unloaded and in locked container in a vehicle.

Simple concept... trick is you have to be aware and manage those transitions!

          Miss a beat... and it's a felony.

Thank you CA legislature for making life so simple! (/sarcasm)

Seriously... there are CA cops who wouldn't give two hoots as long as you weren't a troublemaker. And then there are those who would want to see you fry over the most trivial infraction. With prosecutors, judges and juries to back them up. 50%+ of californians think if you have a gun you intend to kill people and ownership of the gun is proof of premeditation of that. They would prosecute to the max extent possible believing you are coming after them and their loved ones next.

I travel with a trailer. I go legally armed. And i manage those transitions. Not a joke nor a task for those who get preoccupied and sloppy about things. Do it right... you'll be fine. Do it wrong... could put a serious bite on you.
