What to do with old .22 ammo.

i have some old .22 ammo purchased in the mid 70s. Receipts were in the old bag. I tried shooting some the other day and i was getting split casings and some FTFs. I am afraid of a squib load. The rifle is extremely reliable so i am sure that it was the old ammo. My question is what should i do with it? I have about 5,000 rounds. Can i throw it in the trash?

You can take it to your local PD for destruction. I wouldn't throw it in the trash, personally.

I shoot old .22 all of the time.. never any issues.

I have a box of .22 short from the 1950s I am using up right now.

Please don't put it in the trash. Since you're already have problems with it, be careful about giving it away. You never know what might happen to the next person who tries to shoot it.

I understand 5000 rds. of 22cal is allot but I would bring it to the local PD / SO and give it to them for proper disposal.

Thanks for the responses. I have gathered that it is not that dangerous to shoot. And if i want to get rid of it take it to my local PD, or throw it into the fire. j/k. thanks
