Bringing a gun out of state and back in?

I just got my Gen 4 Glock and really like it, and I've been thinking about shooting in some GSSF matches.

It seems like the only GSSF match near me in the near future is in Reno, Nevada. What's the process of traveling out of state with a handgun, then coming back? Especially for an off-roster handgun. I can't find any laws it'd break, but I assume in this state the DOJ won't make it easy.

Lock gun in case. Drive to NV for match. Put gun back in locked case. Drive home.

What Rob said. And leave any hi-cap mags in NV and use 10-rounders in state.

Thanks guys, sounds good. It's a 26 and matches only allow 10 rds loaded in most categories anyway so no worries there. Has anyone who's done this received any grief at the border?

unless you have a giant flag waving out your car that says you have a gun in your vehicle, who is going to stop you?

taken my guns to vegas multiple times. always had them locked up in the trunk of car away from public view and no issues.

just don't violate any driving laws to warrant being pulled over.

and if you do get pulled over, no need to tell them you have guns in the trunk. they don't need to know you have a pistol in there if you are getting a ticket for lane change without signal, or speeding.

From who? I've gone to Oregon, Nevada twice this year by car with an off roster gun.

I was stopped while re-entering California through I-80 and questioned, mostly about fruits (I had no fruits in the car but they asked me a list of questions anyway). Wasn't stopped on the way to Nevada though, and not everyone was stopped. I don't remember if they asked about guns and ammo but with the recent law changes I heard they started doing that.

AG inspection station's have no legal authority to ask about anything other than AG products, and where you are traveling from.

No law against it. Large cap mags only issue. Lock here unlock there. To much paranoia on here. I am going to az sunday and will be shooting there then back home.

You will have no issues as long as you bring 11+ mags.

California knows it is your gun as all handguns are registered. Don't worry about it.

Agricultural checkpoints are not asking about Firearms or ammunition.

Don’t lock your guns in the same container as your fruit and you’ll be fine.

Wear your good undies - you will be strip searched at the Ag/Ammo check point on I-80.
