Loading up a pistol in a gun store is a dumb idea. I was CCWing a 1911 all the time (you can CCW without a permit, anywhere except bars, schools, and domestic abuse centers - and businesses prohibiting concealed carry).

I had a heck of a time disassembling my 1911 so I CCWed it to the local gun shop and asked him to show me how to do it. The guy was appaled that I was carrying a loaded gun. The gunstore owner didn't bat an eye though.

There's aslo a bit of FUD at gunstores even in Alaska so don't beleive everything you hear. I was told CCW in Anchorage was illeagal, when in fact, it's perfectly legal.

Anyway Alaska's awesome, what part you going to? If it's Anchorage, I can recommend some really good gun shops.

By the way you don't have to buy from a gunstore. You can PPT any rifle (as long as it doesn't require a $200 tax stamp) just like a C&R rifle in California.

              Try http://www.907bigboytoys.com/ The Alaskan's craigslist!

              Good luck up there!

                so im back
first off would just mention the gun part of course, nothing too amazing, mostly 22s for fun plinking and got to try a 30 round detachable magazine AK in all its glory, i think it was a yugo, that was fun

anyway overall had a fun time, very different culture especially towards the smaller counties, away from the big cities, loved the place but can't imagine it during the summer

I moved to PHX back in 06 and I wont look back.

I do miss the cooler weather and my CA CCW ( I was one of the rare ones) but I have everything I ever wanted, built up all of my OLL I bought at PSP they way they were meant to be, and bought more items.

I cant move back to Ca even if I wanted to...lol

This is the way i looked at it.

                        1) Unless you're a ditch digger or line puller, you will be working inside during the hot months.

                        2) Its not like you wont have a/c

                        3) Where else can you go out in shorts and flip flops at 8pm in december?

Want to talk, PM me. I think the offset of leaving the BS laws/rules behind in CA offset any hot weather.

I havent ventured out to the wheelin' side of things yet.

I tackled the gun purchases hot and heavy when I first came out. last purchase I made was Feb. last year. I always said i was done with all my toys.

But now I have a itch for a suppressor. The timing of the itch sucks because I JUST bought a house and have to have funds to close on June 1st.

I think once I buy the can, I'll be done with my buying for a while, if not for good (unless something comes up that I cant pass up)

Just make sure no hi-cap mags follow you on the way back. I heard that tends to happen time to time.
