CCW'er Shoots Bad Guy Who Shot a Cop

Sounds like they were initial told to end the pursuit since it was for a traffic violation only.

An attempted traffic stop ended with a Cicero police officer getting shot four times near the Chicago-Cicero border.

Kind of a sad state of affairs when a random CCW guy shots the bad guy two cops were not able to hit. Obviously he may not have been taking direct fire like the officers were, but still, he was the one to put rounds on target. At least that is how the reports kind of make it sound, like the CCW guy was the one that may have made a hit or two.

It's a good thing they haven't disarmed all of the law abiding citizens around Chicago just yet. Awesome job by the CCW guy stepping up and potentially saving the lives of two officers.

Regardless of who got a shot on the bad guy; good work stepping up by the CCWer.

Props to the CCW’r. Very cool.

Per the Town of Cicero’s President, Larry Dominick:
“Our officer is doing pretty good for being shot several times,” Dominick said. “I’m thankful that armed man was in the right place at the right time to help this officer; especially that civilian who was concealed. He got out and started helping the police, which is something I got to be proud of.”

Considered a good samaritan in Cicero. That's great.

It's something every CCWer needs to keep in the back of their mind.... "what would I do?"

That quote from the article does not quite make sense. Sounds like there were two armed members of the public, one concealed.

I think the bravest aspect of this is that a CCW stepped up and risked getting shot by the cops.

I never plan on being CCW but if some similar scenario played out, my main concern would probably be about getting shot by the cops I am trying to help who I would consider very likely to be in a strong "non-blue wearing dude with gun must be bad guy" fight or flight mode.

Yep, I would only do so with utmost caution, here in the Bay Area armed non-LEO is instantly identified as armed aggressor AKA: Bad Guy

I'm just shocked that there are still armed citizens with legal CCWs in and around Chicago. Hope the LEO is OK.

Perps attacking cops aren't looking for citizens to pop up with guns....they are likely in tunnel vision looking only at cops.

The cop apparently got shot when he got out of the car late.....doesn't sound like he was unleashing rounds and couldn't hit anything.

Maybe it's controlled by the state rather than counties... Like in Utah where cities cannot alter state law regarding CCW.

The CCW guy speaks about what happened. “I Didn’t Think Twice”
The 42-year-old said he was stopped at red light when he saw police trying to stop a black Mercedes.

42yrs old with an accent. Had the gun 16yrs before using it to handle business.
