    Is Del-Ton having restocking issues?

They've been out of stock on numerous upper assemblies for easily about a year and a half. I know they're not the best, but they're cost effective.

Try PSA, joeboboutfiiters, jsesurplus or Aero Precision.

Aero precision has some great stuff
Kyle "Kenosha Kid" Rittenhouse did nothing wrong

If you can't buy them they are not cost effective.

Unless you don't want Del-Ton in which case you knew better anyway.

to be fair, I've just kind of been obsessing over their A2 Dissipator upper purely for the aesthetics of it. TNTE has something similar, but I've read mixed to awful reviews of their service so I'm wary.

I bought the Del Ton dissipator barrel, made a retro (605) AR out of it. Works great even with rifle length gas system.

how much did it set you back to DIY, and what tools were required, if you don't mind me asking?

As far as tools, I have had them for years. You will need an armorers block, and AR wrench. A torque wrench. A set of AR roll pin punches, and starter punches are nice too. A hammer too.
You will need a vice mounted on a sturdy table/bench to assemble barrel to upper. Also no-go gauges.

If you don't plan on assembling a few AR's, you should just hire a gunsmith to assemble it.

For the retro parts, retro furniture from Brownells was $80. The barrel was $155 (16in HB with rifle gas). Retro upper receiver and bolt/carrier was about $300 from Fulton Armory. 3 prong flash hider about $12.

              About $550 with shipping.

Already had a spare lower and parts kit in my tool box. I could probably get a lower less than $80, and parts kit about $50.

That's pretty awesome, not much more than the price of the already assembled upper, and you have it retro style to boot! I'd probably have to pay a smith to do it because I don't have the space/tools required. On top of that, I'm waiting to hear from CFARS about my registration.
