    Airsoft and a Prohibited person

in California Is a .177 air gun/rifle a "firearm"? I heard Minnesota has defined a BB gun as a "firearm" making it a felony for a prohibited person to have access to. Does California have something like this?

a .117 air rifle is very different from an airsoft toy IMHO.

I wonder how they can say that an airpowered rifle is considered a "fire"arm

I'm Interested in hearing about facts myself, Cuss My understanding it is still considered a firearm, because it shoots a projectile, My older brother is a felon, and I believe he can't own or be around even a BB gun, I'd would like to here it from someone with facts thou.

an air rifle is not a firearm. the fact that it shoots a projectile does not make it one.
btw neither are slingshots, bows, a bent-back spork w/ a piece of food on it, etc....

I have a friend that was charged for brandishing a weapon in a moving vehicle, his sucky lawyer had him plead guilty on the charge and take probation.

He had to get rid of his firearms AND extensive collection of airsoft, model, and any weapon/tactical equipment by court mandate.

-guy's in his 60's, has no history of violence, and the neighbor that called the cops on him has to see him every morning for the next two years.

I actually bought my gammo 1000fps air rifle online... so i highly doubt its considered a firearm.

Well according to Minnesota law your pellet gun is a firearm Im just wondering how California classifies it and/or how far way are we form having the same king of law. It doesn't have to require an FFL or a 10 day wait to be called a firearm.

Here is a quote off of strikebacknow.com:

                "USA
No legal limit on pellet velocity. Generally limits vary from 350 to 400 ft/s (107 to 122 m/s) urban and from 450 to 500 ft/s (137 to 152 m/s) in woodland.
Not legal in New York City Metro (5 Boroughs), portions of Michigan, San Francisco, and Washington DC.
Must comply with two criteria: muzzle permanently colored in blaze orange and all non-licensed trademarks removed for copyright reasons on the Airsoft guns (this law recently expired on the federal level; however certain states still have and enforce it)."

I heard a story through the grapevine about a guy on probation/parole whatever who got in trouble for playing paintball (same thing, "restricted person").

I have searched high and low:
can someone help me find a piece of law that prohibits BB guns from "prohibited persons"

I thought that bb guns paintball guns and the like were considered firearms. I know for sure that paintball guns are treated as firearms as i had a little mishap with some friends years ago when we used to play in and old abandoned building and someone called the police

my friend asked the judge if he could have airsofts after his felony, they judge told him without gunpowder it is not a "firearm"
just like firearms are banned in other countrys so their tech on airguns goes through the roof

Just a heads up, if anyone is wondering. Airsoft comes in two flavors/calibers: 6mm (.236cal) and 8mm (.315cal).

isn't "firearm" = device that uses a controlled explosion to project something? Using compressed gas or a spring isn't a controlled explosion.
