    5D Tactical jigs

My dad lives out of state and is looking at buying the pro model which does AR-9/45, AR-15, and AR-10 lowers. Are they worth the investment? Easy to use?

I have no direct experience with it, but assuming it really is compatible with all forged, billet and polymer lowers and your dad really has the intention of making two or three different types of lowers, $250 seems like a really good deal.

Very easy to use, also can open that rear shelf up on any receivers he may already own

Thanks for the replies guys. He had an "Aimsmall Arms" jig with the interchangeable top plates and ended up gouging the side of one of the top plates with the mill. That alone wasn't a huge deal until he found out that he couldn't buy replacement top plates. After that he's pretty hesitant on buying another jig because he doesn't want another expensive paperweight.

That's good to know. How is the finish on the FCG pocket using this jig? I had a buddy that used a router jig on his lower and it didn't turn out very clean. He ended up milling through the front of the pocket a little bit into the mag release channel.

I've got the standard model, and it's fantastic. It's super easy to use. Just take your time and it will turn out well.

One thing I've started doing is using a 1/4" end mill first, to do the whole fire control pocket. Then I drill my trigger/hammer/safety holes. Then I go back with the 5D Tactical end mill and mill the fire control pocket again to the correct dimensions. I get a much better result this way. By doing this, most of the wear is on the 1/4" mill (which is cheap, and easily replaced). The 5D end mill is much more expensive, and obviously can only be purchased from 5D Tactical.
