Where do I go to find powder and primers locally?

    Hello,

I was wondering where people go in the Bay Area to get good deals on powder and primers. I'm looking to load .45 ACP. . . Dillon is in the mail.

Looking for Federal primers and an 8 lb. jug of Hogdon Clays. I'm near Berkeley on the east bay.

    Thanks,
    'Chung

recommend to buy it online: www.powdervalleyinc.com

Local prices are way too expensive! And the availability sucks!

^ true, but if you need something right away, you can try Reeds, Castro Valley Firearms, or Andreotti, the last two are your best bet for your location

I still lament Bulletsx3 closing whenever these topics come up. Ike wasn't the cheapest, but his prices were fair considering where he was doing business and it was great to chew the fat with him.

ETA, Reeds can't carry 8 lbs. jugs because of some silly local ordinance.

I just bought 3 lbs. of powder (Lil'Gun, Bullseye and 748) and a brick of primers (WLP) from Powder Valley. Total delivered cost was $93.00 and change.

Wow. . . guess this is a bummer. . . I read that lots of folks like to get primers/powder locally because of hazmat shipping where bullets and brass are fairly cheap due to USPS fixed rate boxes.

Guess that's the Bay Area for you. Does anyone do group purchases on primers/powder? IPSC guys? If so, I've gotta get in on some.

and now. . . . .. back to the internet!

I buy them at Gun Show. Too bad you missed Cow Palace Gun Show but there is Vallejo Gun Show coming up. I know the IPSC people who I belong to buy the bullet in bulk. I will ask them next time about the powder.

Good deals on primers and powders, and in the bay area, are not possible. Buy on line with a friend or 2 & split the hazmat fee or hit your next gunshow.

What's the big hubbub about Powder Valley? I see them touted consistently, but their prices are about the same as the ones I see from Graf's with my C&R... cheap shipping or something?

Powder Valley has great customer service and normally has the items stock.

Markley's or Trigger Hill has supplies that you can pick up.

Holy Smokes. . . Watsonville's south of Santa Cruz.

That's 100 miles away from me. Hazmat charge would cost less than the round trip.

Hazmat fee is only $20 and you can mix powders and primers in the same order. In my area about 3-4 Lbs of powder and one brick of primers is a big enough order to come out ahead on an order from Powder Valley, if I figure in the sales tax and gas to my local shop.

I will be making my annual powder order next month for about 12 Lbs of powder and figure with the HazMat fee included I will save about $60-$70.

Check Pat's Reloading, RVOW, Hi-Tech Ammo, Southern Belle Brass (for starters) They can probably hook you up with powder, bullets are usually .223 and .30 caliber. Very good prices

In addition to one Hazmat fee per shipment, no matter how many "hazardous" items you order, Powder Valley shipping is actual cost. I bought 8 lbs of powder and 5000 primers and the shipping was less than 10 bucks.

Their primer prices are about what you can get at gunshows but I find that their powder is cheaper.
