Rahm: “This may not be politically correct," he said, "but I know the power of what faith and family can do. … Our kids need that structure. … I am asking … that we also don’t shy away from a full discussion about the importance of family and faith helping to develop and nurture character, self-respect, a value system and a moral compass that allows kids to know good from bad and right from wrong.”
So the Demoncraps have come full circle. Looks like Dan Quayle was right after all - yet the left crucified him for it.
"Show me a young conservative and I'll show you a man without a heart. Show me an old liberal and I'll show you a man without a brain." - Sir Winston Churchill

"I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue!" - Senator Barry Goldwater

They are never told that what they are doing (gangs, graffiti, absentee fathers, placing no value in education, etc.) is wrong because the lefties don't want to hurt the feelings of the poor. And there is still guilt over slavery and jim crow.

The result is that the lefties are killing them with misplaced kindness.

            Dragged to reality after years.
Of course he will not champion it, and if he tried he would get shot down fast. Stating the obvious root causes and why kids get raised by the streets is anathema to the left, because it strikes at the core of their power. He will probably get a good talking to and go back to blaming guns, NRA, republicans, etc.

Don't be fooled by the act. He knows, and has known, exactly what the problem is.

There are many in power on the Left who are smart enough to know and understand the ills of the world, but they believe that they themselves are the elite and elevated few who are naturally meant to rule above the riff raff.

He knows that guns are not the cause of the violence in Chicago or anywhere else. He has just chosen to champion this farce in order to gain power and prestige. His apparent about face is just the action of a man who knows that he must start producing results, or he'll lose his job. Rahm is a man who is known to be have very little character who is now complaining about a lack of morality. This is a sign of someone who believes that there are two sets of rules, very few for him and his kind, and harsh and restrictive set for everyone else. Sad and absolutely disgusting. He has happily trampled on the rights of average citizens for years while presiding over a death trap of a city, in which the people that he claims to help are slaughtered by the thousands. Elites will happily sacrifice masses of the great unwashed in order to accrue power. It's written all throughout history...

Seems like we hear this every so often. Bill Cosby pointed it out in his Pound Cake speech. But the “culture” just ignored it and continued on. And we have the usual sycophants laying the white guilt and reparations screed.

What took so long for this realization? Or just too politically poisonous to say. Maybe now on the verge of getting booted out of the city for the failed politics he is trying something new.

You can bet Rahm, Obama, and most other lefties already have sufficient family values. They know right from wrong and teach it to their kids. They don't have to go full conservative to get values.

The problem is that they typically won't impose those values on the governed, as part of the academic-lefty philosophy of 1) accepting everything as valid, and 2) rejecting judeo-chistian values.

My take on the article was that for Rahm to say they have a morals and values problem, means it must be really bad. Or maybe he just slipped and forgot the party line for a second.

Either way, mistake or not, it was a blip in the right direction. I don't expect a second though.

It is bad. And what he said is the truth. But his statement is simply an attempt to deflect responsibility from himself and the dems policies of many, many years.
"Did I say "republic?" By God, yes, I said "republic!" Long live the glorious republic of the United States of America. Damn democracy. It is a fraudulent term used, often by ignorant persons but no less often by intellectual fakers, to describe an infamous mixture of socialism, miscegenation, graft, confiscation of property and denial of personal rights to individuals whose virtuous principles make them offensive." - Westbrook Pegler

The Left has always used a minority to infringe the 2A. A few criminals using "military" weapons was the excuse for the 1934 GCA, the Black Panthers are responsible for the 1968 GCA and the continued violence of inherently violent minority races are the excuse for more and more gun control.

Two percent of the counties in the USA account for 51% of the murders. This is a very isolated problem and there is an obvious solution.

When poor people who vote for Democrats realize they have been enslaved by the Leftist programs and recognize prosperity in America was forged by conservative values they will once again be able to have a chance at the American Dream.

Family unity and education needs to be embraced in order to heal the inner cities. Bringing manufacturing jobs back to American cities will provide jobs and self esteem to communities.

I think it indicts the dem policies. Maybe that's not what he had on mind. Maybe he is also sick of having his hands tied by the intelligentsia.

Rahm's father was a far-right independence fighter under the British mandate of Palestine, a protege of Menachem Begin. I'm fairly sure that with that upbringing, Rahm is under no illusions about the world. If Dr. Benjamin Emanuel had moved to, say, the Dallas surburbs instead of Chicago, Rahm would probably have chosen to become a conservative Republican, but being in Chicagoland, he saw that his path to power was in being a liberal Democrat.
In case it wasn't obvious, nothing I write here should be interpreted as legal advice.
