Traveling/Storing non RAW

Say I go shoot at a private range and my AR set up is basically a featureless with a pistol grip, so it has a pinned stock, brake but does not have the fin. Okay yes for that moment it not CA legal. Now the shoot is over and i remove the pistol grip, having done that does the AR now comply with the law and is safe to travel with and store at home? Or take it a step further and separate the lower/upper during travel/storage. i dont believe i'll ever get hassled at the range about that set up that's why i ask. F... Cali btw

okay yeah just got more clarification on that and advised to slide a cable lock where the takedown pins go for an added measure. Guess im taking off that dumb bb now
