By brother in law has one from 1969...same caliber & scope.. After his divorce, he had me care take his guns for about 4 years...I really didn't want to give this one back..Great ,accurate and bueatiful example of Remingtons finest.

Very nice rifle. Do make sure your trigger is safe, Remington had issues with their Walker triggers. When the trigger was pulled with the safety on, some guns fired when the safety was subsequently released, without touching the trigger.
well let's see, most of those issues were newer Remingtons and the injuries were from numnuts that stood in front of, or pointed the muzzle in the wrong direction with a loaded chamber, if anything he can always go to a reputable gunsmith and make sure, good call gba

          Beautiful rifle!

          How long is the barrel?

And, if you could do us all a small favor and edit your post with hitting Enter between each [/img] [img] - if you hit enter twice, it will leave a small space between each image, now stacked vertically for our viewing pleasure and that will eliminate the need to side-scroll halfway down the hall.

          We thank you.

Alright I know this is kinda off the subject....
I just talked and said goodbye to my friend that sold me this rifle, its his last day at work after 53 years in service.
I showed him the comments here, he had a good laugh.
We talked about this rifle for a year, he said he had this but did not know where he placed it.....he knows it somewhere in the house! But about a month ago he said he found it, and we better transfer it before he retires.

tell your friend Happy Retirement, one thing I learned early in my retirement was to never say to the wife that "I am bored"

Does it have the checkered metal butt plate?

Rubber butt pad, with some ventilated x ribs, I assume to absorb the recoil.

                          What a huge score!
Beautiful specimen of an American classic (and very capable) rifle.
Don't worry about the recoil. Get that puppy jammed into your shoulder and touch it off. You'll be smiling so much you shouldn't even feel it!
