How to remove a screw that has been punched?

I recently got a m44 barreled receiver and I want to remove the bayonet from it because it won't work with the muzzle break I have. It turns out that the reason I have been having such an issue unscrewing it is because someone punched the bottom of the screw in 2 places.

Any good ideas on how to get the screw off?

Anyway you can drill out the screw?

Then, Sir, we will give them the bayonet! (Stonewall Jackson's reply to Colonel B.E. Bee when he reported that the enemy were beating them back. At the first battle of Bull Run, July 1861)

I probably could. It looks like it'll be a pain but that might be what needs to happen

lightly apply centerdrill or dremel cutting wheel, it will remove the peened metal and allow you to unscrew it
