Grass Fire at Metcalf Range

Grass fire started 10 minutes ago, behind the steel area of the 100 yards line. We are in ceasefire, while firefighters work.

One truck with a crew of four on scene, Calfire helicopter circling overhead.

They are working quickly to contain/control - burn area stretches from left edge of steel area, over to edge of pistol range.

You should be fine for this Saturday or Sunday. 3 more trucks from SJFD arrived by the time I packed and left at 12:25pm.

Is this why Sunnyvale is so packed today? I was out shooting trap today and there were more than usual no. of shooters at the rifle/pistol range.

I assume that the firefighters already put it out. This attachment shows what the fire (which started from the left side, behind the steel shooting area) looked like during the ceasefire (before spreading towards the 50 yards range), before the fire trucks arrived to put it out:

Glad emergency crews got the fire out quickly. I hope they don't ban the ability to hang steel targets in the future. I love that side of the range.

It doesn't need to be steel core. Copper fragments can be hot enough from friction to cause a fire to start.

I can easily see this as the next reason major concern for shutting down all outdoor ranges in this commie state.

After all, the Constitution reads that we can own firearms and nothing about being able to practice with them.
