snap cap fails to eject = normal?

i got a couple of .223 snap caps for my bolt gun. i can chamber it fine but when pulling the bolt back, it fails to 'grab' the snap cap and it won't eject. actually, it does seem to get some grip on it since it pulls it back out of the barrel but then the snap cap just falls away into the chamber and i have to turn it over to shake it out.

took the gun out to the range yesterday and it shot fine and ejected the crap out of real rounds. i don't suspect anything wrong with the bolt

is this just normal for snap caps? i thought the point of them was to act like real rounds in handling, just not actually shoot?

No it’s not normal, all of my snap caps always eject

Buy dummy rounds made with real brass/bullet minus the powder/primers. They usually have soft gel type material instead of a primer.

Yes, I recently experienced feed problems with snap caps in a bolt action rifle. No issues with live ammo.

Take a round apart

Just remove the bullet with some pliers, pour out the powder, pop out the primer from the inside.

Put bullet back into cartridge paint it blue. Your very own training round.

No reason for regular joe to use snap caps or dummy cartridges.

And no it's not normal, a-zoom's will extract fine unless something is very wrong, either your doing, worn as hell snapcap, or the gun.

It's weight is close to an empty case, example:
9mm 124gr blazer: 193.2gr
9mm blazer brass case: 63.4 gr
9mm A-zoom: 64.0gr

Clean your chamber, try again, then stop using snap caps cause there's no point unless you're doing handling demonstrations.

Red plastic ones (308( had never ejected. I always had to use a cleaning rod to get them out. Metal .38 spl work OK.
