I'm building a .224 Valkyrie

Over the last several months I've been watching .224 Valkyrie videos on youtube. Then I went on PSA to look at pistol parts and they had a 20" .224 Valkyrie complete upper half for $349.00. I bought it.

All the Internet videos sing lots of praises. Supersonic out to 1300 yards, resistant to wind, yada yada.

So, I go by the gun store to buy some ammo... the store says they've only sold one and the ammo is special order. I go to buy some hunting rounds and they do not offer leadless ammo... obviously this cartridge was designed to hunt paper.

No worries... I exercise my google-fu, and afterwards.... I have a complete reloading kit coming... my $349 purchase has turned into $1000 and I'm salivating every time I see a UPS truck....

Anyone fall into this pit too?

i started reloading for my milsurps to save on cost, HAHAHA, im in pretty deep now loading eveyrthing i shoot, save for 12 ga and rimfire. But Im looking into a sanders armory 22" 1 in 6.7 twist barrel a lot of guys seem to have decent groups with those in other forums and the price is not too ridiculous. I plan my build to be finished around january as I am waiting for black friday deals on said build. I have amassed a few hundred of the 75gr plinkers, so enough to warm up the barrel and sight in the optic. This would be my first 'precision' firearm as well.

I'm standing next to the pit. I've been watching prices as well. I need a barrel and bolt only. I shied away from the PSA upper because accuracy worries: I have 3 PSA uppers. I'm obviously looking for an accurate barrel and I'm thinking along the lines of carbon fiber or quality SS.

To all: anyone considered to handloading .223 w/ the 90 high BC grain bullets? using the loads turns your rifle into a single shot rifle. Then again are you going to shoot 55’s M193 outta the same upper? Flame me, lol

Why is that??

I bought a box of the factory 90 grains, but they have lead. I only bought the 77 grain pure-copper bullet to make the libs happy for hunting season.

I've seen lots of good reviews on the PSA upper. There is some talk that the 90 grains didn't group well with a 1:7 barrel, so that's why I bought them. I'm going to shoot them out of my 1:7 and see if I can get a decent group.

What does this have to do with anything? The round is only a year old. I think you'd be hard pressed to find it on the shelf of any average gun store.

I Built mine using CMMG's barrel. Works well with 77gr SMKs (hand loaded). Haven't tried the 90gr SMKs but from what I've read/watched, they don't do well in 1:7 barrels, which is what mine is. Upsetting since I'd rather just make Mk262 clones with the 77gr SMKs. If you plam to use the 90gr SMKs get a 1:6.5 barrel (from what I've been reading)

P.S I've seen factory ammo at Turners and Rifle Gear, mostly the 75gr TMJ and 90gr SMK.

Yup... your BCG and mags will work.... good sh...

Problem I found was at $349, might as well get the whole upper half. That's usually around what a barrel costs...
