shipping a firearm; how to? afraid...

    thanks in advance for reading.

well... how exactly does this happen? person has an FFL picked out, already. what steps should i take to avoid being scammed?

    ----------------------------------------------------------

    sorry... i am the SELLER

it's a glock 17 i am selling. person is 4 hour drive away, so cannot meet. my concerns are, i've never done this before. should i use paypal? or request a money order? i'm worried about shipping the firearm and having person pull some BS and i have to refund them.

probably should sell locally to avoid issues, no?

Don't buy from private party if not local.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

How about a little detail such is is it a handgun or a long gun and why is it being shipped. For repairs to a manufacturer, is it off roster, what? Are you buying it? What are your concerns

Or sell to someone not local.

How you arrange payment is up to you. At the very least you need to confirm the status of the FFL holder.

You may want to give a bit more details on the deal. Someone should be able to give you good clear answer's to questions. If you ask the right questions, and aren't vague about the details.

For something that low cost and common, it's not worth the hassle, cost of shipping, or potential negative outcome if the buyer or ffl are dishonest or picky. If it's priced reasonably, it'll sell local in no time.

I recommend having the buyer pay you the full price of the item before you ship it. Have them pay through PayPal. PayPal offers buyer protection if certain rules are followed. You will feel confident because you got paid up front, and the buyer will feel confident because they have PayPal buyer protection. Here is a link where you can read about it. PayPal will charge you a seller's fee of about 3%.

Transfer money online in seconds with PayPal money transfer. All you need is an email address.

EDIT: I'm not sure what happens if the buyer is unhappy and demands a refund for some obscure reason. Perhaps you should speak to the buyer and say that if they are unhappy they can pay for shipping back to you plus PayPal fees and then you will return their money. My personal belief is that if a buyer is unhappy it's better to accept the return rather than have someone out there who is pissed at you because they think they got a bad deal. Don't spend the money they pay you until you hear from them that they are happy with their purchase. That's my opinion.

Not that big of a deal. He sends you a USPS money order. You can verify it by phone with USPS. Have him include shipping or split it, whatever. You have to ship 2nd day air. You have to include a copy of you CDL. You have to ship to a FFL. The FFL will send you a copy of his info which can be checked via FFL ezcheck online. Buyer will pick the FFL usually since he will pick it up there.
Probably biggest hassle will be shipping it. I have a FedEx account so I usually package it up and drop it off at FedEx. You can't take it to a ups store....
Yea you're probably right, less hassle just sell it locally thru a PPT.

One of paypal's rules is no firearms, so no buyer protection. They will also probably cancel both accounts.

We don’t allow PayPal members to buy or sell any kind of firearm, whether it’s in working order or not. The same goes for certain firearm parts and ammunition.

For example, using PayPal, you can’t buy or sell:

Any firearm, including rifles, shotguns, and handguns, whether they’re for sport and recreation, collectibles, or curio or relic firearms.
Firearm parts, including but not limited to receivers and frames, silencers, and kits designed to modify guns so that they fire automatically. High capacity magazines, multi-burst trigger activators, and camouflaging firearm containers are other items in this category.
Ammunition, including propellants like gunpowder or blank ammunition; ammunition or cartridge cases; and primers, bullets, or propellant powder designed for any firearm.

Aside from getting paid, (do NOT use Paypal or Venmo etc, wire transfer or USPS MO only!) You need to verify:
                    • that the FFL is current, which means you use ATF EZ check website https://fflezcheck.atf.gov/fflezcheck/
                    • that the address you are shipping to matches exactly the address for the FFL on file with ATF
                    • that the receiving FFL is willing to accept shipments for dealer transfer from non-licensees
                    • What documents the receving FFL wants from you
                    • Be SURE that the gun is in the original roster tested configuration (that means Austrian Gen 3 with no stippling, cerakote, slide mods, etc)
                    • that you use a legal ship method and follow carrier policy, which means no USPS, you use Fedex or UPS overnight ship and probably will cost you $50-$80 to ship

Still sounds good? Well get this - There is almost never any reason to ship a Glock 17. They are cheap in local gun stores, and after considering all the BS above, it is far easier to sell it locally. In good condition, people will beat down your door at $400 and even $450 is a sale. Unless you are giving this away, or it has crazy desireable mods (which are not legal to ship in-state) - it is a red flag when someone asks you to ship a Glock.

They are easier to buy locally too. They are $479 - $499 in store brand new, and the buyer will not have to pay a transfer fee and shipping which adds $100-$150 easy. So ask yourself why is this buyer wanting yours so bad, in a stranger pay/ship deal?

Be wary of fake FFL documents, or switched addresses on real FFL documents. Be super wary of any payment method besides USPS MO or wire transfer. There are a hundred firearm scams going man, people get burned shipping guns every day unless they know what to look for.

Who the hell buys a glock 17 used and wants it shipped to their ffl? Those guns are cheap enough to buy new at a local shop ha.

How much did you sell it for, 100 bucks?

Hmm...that's odd. I did this about two years ago without any problem.

Maybe you should call a FFL and ask them how this is usually done.

If they want to buy a Glock shipped, it's a scam.
