    Intra-Familial Transfer Question (response time)

Guys, I did 2 of these via snail mail. The pistol one, I got my letter. My 10/22, I have not received a letter in like a year. Is there actually any (semi-painless) way to check on the status of this with DOJ?

They cashed my $19 check, but nothing has come in the mail.

Not too worried about it, but still I'd like some warm and fuzzy that in CalDOJ eyes I am officially the owner of this thing.

    Thanks

I'm assuming it is being transferred to you? Was it done together (pistol & 10/22)... as in on the same form?

If so, both the pistol and 10/22 should be on the letter you received. Which should be the case since you only spent $19.

I sent 3 pages, 11 guns total in Jan. Came back in May, 10 registered, minus 1. They didn't register the 1, because it was reported stolen, my dad bought it back before long guns were required to go through transfer.

Yours may be a similar situation, but a year seems really long for the PD to be taking to come talk to you about it. GL

Your only legal obligation is to file the form. There is no requirement for them to acknowledge it nor for you to have a response to prove you filed.

Actually, the reg Form says "...you will receive confirmation notice of transaction." I got one so did OP, just not with all his guns, same as what occurred with mine.

Yeah it was 2 different forms. I'd guesstimate I got the pistol letter back within 5 months.

I just checked the 10/22 form I sent in, and it was dated Jan 2017. So its actually been ~18 months since I sent it in with no confirming letter back.

I see. If you paid for two separate transaction, but they haven't charged you for the 10/22 then most likely it didn't go thru.

BUT if they did charge you I wouldn't sweat it since you did your part. If something was wrong to prevent the transfer they should've notified you via mail. It happened with my brother and he received a letter stating the transfer could not be completed for such reason.

If you're really concern just give them a call.

Another thing... just need some more clarification. So it was two separate forms. Did you pay $19 for each from submission ($38 total)??

Reason I'm asking is because if you submit two forms, but only paid $19 as you stated above, that might be the reason.

Yeah 2 sep forms with 2 checks for $19. Mailed probably 2-3 months apart. Both checks cashed.

I went online to the site and sent them an email. Not overly hopeful for a response but will give it a week. If nothing then I'll set aside a few hours to call them and presumably get the run-around for half a day.

You should be fine. Although it shouldn't have taken this long for them to process the form, they cashed your check which means it was approved. When my brother's form was rejected they also sent back his check.

Anywho, don't stress it. Hopefully it's not too much of a pain to get ahold of them.

I did one in April. No response yet, but they cashed my check pretty fast.

                          Update

OK, so just wanted to follow up... they actually DID respond to my online contact via email form thing, and they did just call me. Which really surprised me.

Talked to a nice lady who checked and said, "yeah it was approved, and we sent a letter, you're good." I just did not get the letter for some reason.

So, all in all, pretty easy experience on this.
