    Any shooting ranges near Solvang?

Wife and I are headed up there for 5 days for an in-law glamping trip to flying flags. I'll get bored up there. I don't drink much. I would ride Zaca Station MX Track but they just close it down. I would like to fish or go shooting one day. Winchester GC is an hour away. Anything closer? Thanks

Winchester GC is less than 45 minutes from Flying Flags if you take 246 to 154. The Glass Factory is another six or so miles east on Camino Cielo along the ridge-line but may be closed by the Forest Service depending on fire conditions.
If you’re retired military you can shoot at the Vandenberg AFB range from what I hear.
I belong to a nice little private pistol & bow range within 3 miles of town.

There was a range on Happy Cyn. Shortly after the road turns to dirt, a few miles before the ranger station and Figueroa Mtn Rd. I don't know the status any more. I shot there a few times around 10 years ago. The loop drive from Happy Canyon to Figueroa Mtn back to 154 is nice, but takes a few hours.

Have alwaya wondered how to get up there. Tried to take the family last winter driving from ballard and a few miles up the road said closed to non 4x4 vehicles. Is the pistol range off the freeway in buellton still running?

Beware of Seller ST Auctions on gunbroker

Watch out for seller: ST Auctions on Gunbroker.

Bid and won a Brand New Shotgun on Gunbroker. ST Auction sent me a shotgun with a dented barrel. The firearm was returned as the seller did not provide any solutions for the issue (ie.. new barrel, exchange, discount, refund). It's been over 6 weeks since the firearm was returned with THEIR shipping label. Now they won't answer and/or wont' give me a refund.

Gunbroker does nothing but ask the seller for a status and tells me that they just inquired the seller. I gave gunbroker the pictures of the broken gun and return label confirmation but gunbroker does nothing.

Also, I see the same gun back on Gunbroker. So ST auction will sell this broken firearm again and make money off the shipping cost when another customer returns the item. They will probably do this until someone doesn't return the firearm.

Also, most sellers on gunbroker get five stars for selling ammo so beware if you are purchasing a firearm.

If you have any issues, gunbroker won't do much to help.

They closed this to shooting several years ago, too much trash being left there.

Indoor pistol and skeet at the Santa Maria Gun Club - about a 40 minute drive from Santa Ynez. Hours are somewhat limited.
Santa Maria's trap shooting range, since 1928. Open to the public with indoor pistol and archery range

Despite our best efforts for years, the Glass Factory was permanently closed to the public when a stupid teen "accidentally" shot himself and he later died, about two years ago.

I only have some of the details but it sounded suspiciously like a suicide and that was all the antis up there needed to force the Forest Service to close it to the public forever. What happened could have happened literally anywhere but the opposition painted it to make it appear that our youth are tragically dying from evil guns at a public shooting area, therfore we should close it.

ALL the public shooting locations in the national forest up to and including the glass factory on East Cielo and the Chicken Springs range on Happy Canyon road were closed because of a law suit against the Forest Service by the Friends of the National Forest, they will remain closed for a minimum of 5 years, and we all know that will be the end. The bow and pistol club just north of Buellton is private. The Santa Maria range is about 25 minutes north of Buellton, take Clark Ave east to Telephone road north about 2 miles on your right. The full time closure of the glass factory on East Cielo had absolutely nothing to do with the young man who died there, the first closure was performed by law enforcement until they finished their investigation and deemed it ACCIDENTAL, I know the gentleman whose son it was, father was there with him and it WAS an accident. FYI the father was a partner in Dodge City Guns, he actually held the FFL and has since withdrawn his FFL and has nothing to do with firearms.

That's some sad times indeed. I couldn't imagine losing one of my two boys to an accident. As to that Santa Maria gun range...the trap range is awesome and I've learned to shoot trap pretty well here. The pistol and 22 indoor range...holy hell. I won't bother. The range officers are usually in their 90s, and questioned the **** out of me for having my targets all the way back to the backstop so 20 yards or so and wouldnt back off until they saw me land all my shots in the size of a half dollar . Then I had some regular that stands there doing at the ready drills with his 22s scream at me for unpacking my pistols from their cases on the table start screaming that I was muzzling him. Dude you are watching them be unpacked from their boxes with locks on them brought over to the shooting table....I left with him still cussing me out. I wont go back there and I live about 5 minutes from there.

I traveled to SLOSA or the san Luis Obispo sporting association just north of cuesta college on the one. A beautiful pistol action steel yard and a long range yard out to 7 or 800 yard gongs and everyone is super nice fun and helpful. Il pass on the old folks home that is the Santa maria gun club.

Fyi interesting to hear the real reason the los Padres forest is closed for years. I was hoping to take my boys out to rockfront to learn to shoot since that where I caught the bug but it seems closed permanently.

Angeles forest has been closed to target shooting for 30 years. Thanks to trash left by shooters.

Angeles is an urban forest with it's own "urban" rules. No shooting there because of gangs and liberal big city management methods.
