Where to shoot around Helendale, Barstow, or Victorville

My son and I are going to visit a friend in Helendale.
We are looking for a place to shoot in that area.

May be bringing a RAW couple of rifles, shotgun, and pistols. Would rather find a BLM permitted area if possible.

PS we have a 4X4 truck and a 4X4 Yukon.

    Any suggestions would be helpful

    Thanks

Buy an app with a public land overlay, or buy the proper BLM desert access guide. The Victorville DAG has Helendale right on the middle, Barstow is in the northeast corner of it if that helps.

Of course with the new laws only the person who the assault weapon is registered to is allowed to touch it....unless you are are at an established shooting range......which blm land is not.

Oh, and you can only travel directly to the shoot location and back with the assault weapon.

      Oh joy.

I shoot on BLM land in that area. Use common sense and find an isolated hill/sand dune.

So long as you are not near roads, structures, and you have a good backstop, go nuts.

Go to Hodge road, just bring Body armor and an IFAK for each shooter.

If you go up past Kramer Junction on the 395, its all open, you want to stay on the east side.

There is some private land closer to Adalanto but I don't tell people about it.

We took a bunch of trash out of there a couple weeks ago.
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

                Fire season.
Check with blm. Some areas might be closed to shooting.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

395 about 5-8 miles past shadow mntn Rd... On the right hand side - when you get to the hills there are dirt roads... I take the second one... Drive back I to the hills, you find some good spots.

Its hard to find anything longer than 300 yards with open lane - there is a lot of brush... But you'll find good spots at that location... That was where I shot BLM when I lived in SoCal

Since you have a 4x4 go to Hodge Road, just don't park near all the shooters right there off the 15....drive out into the middle or the other end and you'll more than likely be all by yourself.

LB, unless your shooting on private land, its shotgun only all the way up to Kramer Junction.

                        Thanks everyone.

Looks like Hodge Road shooting area past the crowd or 395 past Kramer Junction

Bring empty cardboard boxes or plastic bags. You should not only haul away all the targets/trash that you bring, but some of what the other cretins leave behind.

I was out shooting in that area last week, always a mess left behind to clean up.

I always bring back more then I take.

It is a shame to have to do that.

I even lay a tarp down to catch the brass and hulls to haul it back and I do not even reload.
