    Gunsmith for Marlin 336?

Just wondering if it's worth spending the money to get a smoothed action job by a competent gunsmith? It's a Marlin 'JM' stamped 336 30-30. I think I would be looking a $250? Does that sound about right?

    Any gunsmith suggestions?

    TIA

It ran me $150 for a smoothout on a Remlin 38/357 from American Gunworks in Glendale, Ca. Took the gunsmith Willie two weeks from drop off to pick up.

Rifle lever would lock up on occasion and it always felt like 10 miles of gravel road.

Rifle is now freakin fantastic. So yes, I would recommend it.

      Thanks Canon for the recommendation.

However, since I'm in Anaheim, I was wondering if there are any other competent gunsmiths that are a little closer to me?

I read about Evans, Bolsa, and American Custom Gunsmithing and their negative reviews (quite a few of them) make me nervous to try them.

I can understand why you want a closer place. I sure did but there wasn't one. So I had to take the drive down to L.A. County. Glad I did.

Best of luck and you will enjoy your rifle even more when you are done.

Unless no one else can recommend a gunsmith that's closer, I guess I will have no choice.

Finding a good gunsmith is getting harder probably due to our gun laws in this state.
