    30.06 Accelerator Sabot with 55gr Hornady V-Max (.223)

Interesting Video. I don't remember these being commercially available, does anybody else?

Can't see how typical twist rates would stabilize those.

I don't know about that specific loading, but accelerators have been around off and on for a long time.

I never saw a use for them, so I've never tried them out.

I've still got sabots laying around the reloading bench from years ago for putting 224's in a 308 bore, and some for putting 308's in a 510 bore. It was all about the short range velocity, some loss in accuracy was a given.

They've only been around as commercial loaded ammunition for about 50 - 60 years.

I have two boxes left in 30-06 that I bought probably 40 years ago. Nothing special and not all that accurate, but a fun idea. I always thought it was just a Marketing Scheme, but I had to try them. Of course almost every place you went back then had 30-30/30-06 sitting out on the counter. It was a good time.

In the 1st minute & a half, the guy in the vid calls the ammo "Escalator" two times.

Well I never shot any "Escalator" out of my 30.06 but I have shot "Accelerator" ammo before in the late 90's. Remington # R30069.

I wasn't impressed with the accuracy past 100 yrds but hard to beat 2033 ft.lbs & 4080 fps out of the gate. Zoom...Zoom..

And yes it it LOUD! Still have a couple of boxes stashed away.

My experience with these rounds sucked. No constancy or accuracy to speak of. That was ten years ago using my stock Rem. 700 BDL. (Don't remember the twist rate as of now). Wanted it to work for yotes but bought a .220 Swift and quickly shot the barrel out of that and switched to 22-250 and fell in love. Ran into hard times and sold it and now the .223 / 5.56 has to fill the roll. The idea behind the accelerator I like but the real world application just isn't there IMHO from my use.

I think its funny how everybody seems to have a couple of boxes left. I don't remember what it cost, but I'm sure it wasn't cheap. Someday If I'm all out of 30-06(HaHaHah)maybe I'll shoot it up.

Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.
