    In a quandary

Hey all, I checked around, and this looked like the right section to post this thread, if not, mods, please move where you think proper.

Here's the deal, I have to sell off one ( or more ) of my antique rifles. The question is, which one?

First one is a Russian Mosin Nagant M91, receiver date is 1895. Manufactured at their Tula arsenal, with the curved sight (I think it's in arshini). Good condition, dark-ish bore, but strong rifling. It's got the usual dings, but otherwise the stock is good, no structural damage. I shoud note that I cannot see any visible import markings. One bit I should add, is that the Tula logo (not the actual name, etc, just the logo), and something else were filed off the receiver-all other markings are there, as they should be (are these what are known as capture marks?). The first rifle is the model that I have:

Second one is a 7MM 1895 Chilean Mauser (Loewe, Berlin) again, no import markings, all matching #'s, cleaning rod, bolt, etc. It's in even better condition than the Mosin, and has an absolutely beautiful stock. Cartouche on both stock and receiver top is in great condition. Bolt is crisp, and I have no qualms about shooting this with modern loads (all Mausers were returned to factory and heat-treated in the 30's).

My question ( or questions ) is this: which of these is more valuable, or sellable? What then, should I ask for it? I know it's difficult to say with any accuracy (pun intended) without photos, but what's a good value range for something like this?

I've scoured a number of online sites, but I figured if there's anyone with any good advice, it would be @ Calguns.

I can't help with your questions but I'm curious about where you got this information?

I had a couple of places that mention this, matter-of-factly, I'd say. Oh, right, one of 'em was that Boston T. Party guy, under his section on antiques.

Come to think of it, I sure hope all that info I found regarding the Mausers(elsewhere, too) wasn't wrong!

I'll help you out with the Mauser......how much do you want for it

But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself...A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague."......Cicero

You know, I really don't know the actual value of the danged thing. Whatever it is, I'd take off a fair percentage, considering your job...

If you're serious, I'll try to come up with a number, and if it seems reasonable (to all involved, not just me and my wallet), then we can bash it around. I can also furnish some crappy pics...

If it goes this way, though, maybe the mods should move this to sales?
