QUOTE=cannon;21697440]M1 not only balance better, make the appropriate noises (Palm on wood, mechanical parts inside) but look like real army rifles.

Cannot imagine spinning an M 16 and slapping the butt on the ground.[/QUOTE]

    This explains it.

Besides, M1s and M14s, especially the M1, is prolly the most manly looking and stylish rifle, IMHO.

Ever seen a brand new looking and shined up M1? It is hard to beat the looks of that rifle. Looks much better with the Sunday duds.

M1 won't break if it's dropped on the carpet; an M16/M4, being based on the same style receiver and upper as an AR-15, wouldn't stand a chance.

My guess is you don't have a ar15?

As a member of the honor guard, the M1's are so much better for drills and look so much better. Plus the history and tradition behind them just add something the AR cannot.

Technically true- I have several including a few that I built from 80% blanks. But there was a thread on here that went on and on, and gets pulled up dozens of times a year, about a guy whose AR fell off the couch and onto the carpeted floor. He was VERY concerned that the 18" fall to the carpet might've damaged his AR.

I tried to search for the thread to post a link but it's a booger to do on a phone. Sorry. It was a good thread.

I wouldn't want to drop any of my ARs multiple times during drill practices but when one hits the ground during a carbine class, I'm confident it'd be no worse for the wear as far as operations go.

                M1 Garand FTW!

Besides, 30cal blanks make a bigger BANG than a 223 pop.

I did a burial at sea during my active duty days. We practiced with M16a3s and M14s from the ship's armory. The M14 balances and feels better. I also think it looks better for a formal ceremony.
